Congress leader P.C. Chacko on Saturday accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of backing off on promises made during the 2014 general elections, including the pledge to bring back black money stashed away by Indians in banks abroad.
"The fact is that after the national executive meeting in Bengaluru, the Prime Minister was speaking about the Act they introduced in Parliament against black money. He is not saying a word about his promises made during the election that he will bring all the black money within 100 days and that every citizen of India will get Rs.15 lakhs in their account, that he is conveniently forgetting," Chacko told ANI.
"And now, (he is) speaking about the law, which will come sometime in future. And everything which he is saying is out of a prick of conscience," he added.
Highlighting his government's achievements in the last ten months, Prime Minister Modi had while addressing a rally in Bengaluru yesterday said that there is no reason as to why India must stay behind.
"How are we being criticised- that whatever is happening has been going on for long...we also had done the same. Sometimes intention is more powerful than policy - your intention was not right, ours is right. So, we are on the path of development," Prime Minister Modi said while silencing his critics.

"Despair has vanished, hope is here. When files come to me I see projects were stalled for years. I was surprised- what were they doing. We have taken quick decisions. When our intentions are correct, we will produce the right results," he added.
Prime Minister Modi also criticized the Congress Party on the black money issue.
"Even after the Supreme Court verdict (on black Money), they (Congress) didn't want to form an SIT. As soon as we came to power, we formed SIT for black money," he said.
