Change must in England ODI squad to be competitive in World Cup: KP

ANI Birmingham (UK)

Out of favour England batsman Kevin Pietersen has said changes have to be made to the one-day side if they are to be competitive at next year's World Cup.

Taking to Twitter after England's humiliating nine-wicket defeat to India in the fourth one-day international at Edgbaston on Tuesday, which gave the world champions an unassailable 3-0 series lead, Pietersen said that when both coach Peter Moores and skipper Alastair Cook were not confident about England's chances of winning the World Cup, then it was logical to bring in players who believed that they could do the job

Sport24 said that Pietersen did not indicate who should be dropped, but only said that a shake-up was required before, rather than after, the World Cup.

South Africa-born batsman Pietersen, England's all-time leading run-scorer across all formats, was sent into international exile in February following England's return home from a 5-0 Ashes thrashing in Australia.

At the time, the England and Wales Cricket Board cited the need to support Alastair Cook's captaincy as a reason for ditching former skipper Pietersen.
