A chargesheet was filed in the Kairana court today against Uttar Pradesh Minister Suresh Rana and eight others in connection with the alleged hate speech during the recently held assembly elections.
Rana, who is the Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Cane Development and Sugar Mills in Yogi Adityanath's government, will face trial for making the alleged hate speech on January 28, 2017 during the election campaigning in Shamli's Thana Bhawan area.
During the campaigning in the recently held assembly elections, Rana had told a gathering at Thana Bhawan that sweets would be distributed in Deoband if he loses, but curfew would be imposed in Kairana, Deoband and Moradabad if he gets elected again.
Thana Bhawan Police had on January 30, 2017, registered a case against Rana and eight others under IPC Section 505 (Making a statement with intent to incite) and Section 125 (Promoting enmity between classes in connection with election) of The Representation of the People Act for his controversial remarks.
Rana is also an accused in the Muzaffarnagar riots.
