Chennai Police catch six bookies for betting

Chennai police are conducting searches at various places in Chennai, a day after three Rajasthan Royals players were arrested for allegedly spot fixing matches in exchange for money. The raids are taking place at Sowcarpet, Triplicane, Purushwalkkam and four other places.

"We have raided eight to ten places here and have secured six cricket bookies involved in betting. It is not match fixing but betting. The investigation

is in a preliminary stage," said an official of Crime Branch-Crime Investigation Department (CBCID).

Fast bowler S Sreesanth and his Rajasthan Royals teammates Ankeet Chavan and Ajit Chandila were arrested in connection with spot-fixing by Delhi

 

Police late on Wednesday.

Startling revelations have revealed the involvement of former Rajasthan Royals player Amit Singh, who incidentally was the middleman.

Meanwhile, Ankeet Chavan has already confessed to his crime. Sreesanth still remained tight-lipped in the entire issue.
