China has announced the construction of largest private museum in Asia on an island that is yet to be built.
A new city is being planned over an area of 40,000 square metres on the island of Pingtan in China's Fujian province and the Pingtan Art Museum is going to be its cultural centerpiece, the Sydney Morning Herald reports. Pingtan Art Museum will be home to over 1000 national treasures when complete, the report added.
Beijing-based architects MAD have designed the gallery and its environments which will represent a long-lasting earthscape in water and is a symbol of the island in ancient times.
According to the report, the building will be constructed with concrete blended with local shells and the interior is intended to resemble ancient caves.
However, a completion date for the project hasn't been confirmed yet for the island as well as museum.
MAD has claimed that the island will become the primary location for trade and cultural communication between Taiwan and mainland China in future.
