Delivering his annual address at the 70th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), he said the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor should be seen as an "inspiring model" of South-South cooperation, which will bring huge economic and development benefits to both nations as well as to the entire region.

The project forms an important component of President Xi Jinping's "One-belt One-road initiative", and Sharif said, "This development strategy and framework offers new opportunity for Asia's transformation and prosperity."

The China-Pakistan economic corridor is an ambitious USD 46 billion investment plan linking western China to the Arabian Sea with infrastructure, energy and transport projects. India has objected to the corridor as it goes through Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK).
