The Chinese government has reportedly passed a new rule for web users in an attempt to crack down on web anonymity, requiring people to use their real names while uploading videos on the internet.
The rule was implemented recently, following circulation of drafts by the Communist Party on online "identity management" policy last year.
State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television (SARFT) said the rule has been formed to keep tabs on vulgar content, base art forms, exaggerated violence and sexual content in Internet video that has a negative effect on society, the Verge reported.
The Party had passed stringent anti-defamation laws last September for web users following numerous scandals involving China's politicians.
