A day after Japan strongly criticised Chinese land reclamation activities and offshore platforms in disputed East China Sea in its annual defence report, Beijing has termed the report 'malicious and misleading,' saying that the report will have a detrimental impact on 'peace and stability' in the Asia-Pacific region.

While remarking that the action exposed the 'two-faced nature' of Japan's foreign policy, China's defence ministry said that the report overplayed 'Chinese military threat' and stoked tension between the two East Asian countries, reported The Guardian.

The ministry also said that the document 'maliciously' hyped-up issues of East China Sea, South China Sea, internet security and military transparency.

China said that it 'reserved' the right to a 'necessary reaction' after Japan issued a review calling on Beijing to halt building oil and gas exploration platforms close to disputed waters in the East China Sea.

In the defence review, Tokyo had expressed concerns that the platforms being built by China on disputed waters could be used as monitoring stations near islets. It had also noted that Chinese drills could tap reservoirs that extended into Japan's territory.
