China worst in world in terms of air travel delays

China has topped the list of air travel delays among various airports of the world, with less than 20 percent of flights departing Beijing airport on time, while China's carriers also make up eight of the worst performing airlines.

According to Sky News, only 18.3 percent of flights left Beijing airport on time in June of 2013 and passengers using China's airlines and airports suffered the most with less than one-in-five planes leaving on time from its capital's airport.

However, the report said that Shanghai was slightly better at 28.72 percent, but still 10 percentage points below the next-worst performer, Istanbul.

Industry analysts have frequently blamed the country's air force's tight restrictions on airspace for heavy congestion along available corridors, the report added.

Although air travel has more than quadrupled in China along with rising incomes and cheaper tickets, alongside that growth, routine delays, shoddy service and ill-mannered passengers have fuelled an epidemic of air rage incidents, video footage of which is often shown on television, the report further said.
