Chinese police have shot down nine militants and captured one in the violence in Xinjiang region, say reports.

Officials said that the police had been chasing a terrorist group in the autonomous region.

Xinjiang area of China is home to the Chinese Muslim Uighur minority.

Uighars in the area have been discontented for years due to tight Chinese control of Xinjang and a large scale Han Chinese migration.

There has been a remarkable increase in violence in the area that includes the killing of a pro-government imam on Wednesday.

There was violence reported in the southern area of Xinjiang on Friday.

China blames overseas terror groups that provoke extremists to inflict violence in China.
