Chinese President Xi Jinping, during a visit to Macau, has urged the former Portuguese colony's residents to respect the "one-China" policy amid protests demanding "universal suffrage".
According to BBC, Xi was in Macau to mark the 15th anniversary of the territory's return to China.
Dozens of protestors marched in Macau's historic centre, demanding "universal suffrage" on Saturday.
Xi said during his visit that the difference of the two systems must be respected and that they should adhere to the "one-China" principle.
According to reports, communist authorities in Beijing do not want Macau and Hong Kong to become hotbeds of disagreement.
