Chinese Vice Premier Liu Yandong met the President of the Royal Society, Britain's national academy of sciences, Sir Paul Nurse, this week.
During their meeting, Liu talked highly of the efforts made by the Royal Society in the past decades to intensify exchange and cooperation with the Chinese scientific community, including the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS).
She also briefed Nurse about the establishment of a high-level consultation mechanism for people-to-people exchanges between China and Britain, and expressed the hope that the Royal Society would enhance exchanges with the Chinese scientific community, besides further exploring areas of cooperation.
Nurse, who was here on his first official visit to China since assuming office in 2010, signed a joint statement on promoting scientific and technological cooperation with the CAS.
