The Christian community in Bangladesh, as elsewhere across the world, is celebrating Christmas today.

Christians are offering special prayers in churches on the occasion.

The celebrations start on the eve of the day with singing of carols in public places like lobbies, restaurants and lounges.

The prayer houses and adjoining areas have already been decorated with colourful tiny blinking lights.

Illuminated Christmas trees have been placed with a star standing right on top, reports the Daily Star.

Different luxurious hotels in the capital have already been decorated with Christmas trees, goodies and fairy lights.

The Rapid Action Battalion (Rab) and police have remained alert in churches and adjoining areas to ensure that the day remains a peaceful one.

The day is a public holiday in Bangladesh.
