The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) today welcomed Labour Ministry's initiatives to create conducive environment for industrial development through transparent, simplified compliance mechanism

Commenting on the slew of announcements made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Labour reforms, CII Director General Chandrajit Banerjee said, "CII welcomes the Ministry of Labour's initiative of launching the 'Shram Suvidha Portal' to facilitate a single window for compliance of labour Laws. Simplification of procedures has been a long standing concern for Industry and this initiative by the Ministry will considerably ease the burden of compliances especially for SME Sector".

"The most important advantage of the portal is that this will allow online registration of Units and filing of Self-Certified Single Online Returns. It will also provide enormous relief to industry and reduce the compliance burden for industry especially SMEs who were to earlier file multiple returns under each law," he added.

He also said that the launch of the "Labour Inspection Scheme" will bring in lot of transparency and accountability.

"Rationalising inspections have been a long standing demand from industry and CII is happy that the Labour Inspection Scheme will check on the arbitrariness in compliance mechanism," Banerjee said.

The long awaited amendment to the Apprentice Act will enable industry to scale up the number of Apprentices from 3 lakh to approximately 23 lakh thereby leading to large employment and creation of a skills talent pool for industry.

This will lead to work readiness of the new entrants to the workforce through the Apprenticeship programme and allowing the employees to be productive from the very beginning.
