City police recover 43 illicit weapons, five arrested

In a major arms haul, police in the national capital recovered 43 illicit weapons in the city, and arrested five men after a year-long search operation.

Special Commissioner of Police (Special Cell), New Delhi, S.N. Srivastava, said such illicit weapons were often used and abused by criminals.

He said the weapons were being made in Bihar's Munger District and were transported to other cities in east of the country once the Special Cell of New Delhi began investigations during early 2013.

Later on, the criminals shifted base to Khargone and Khandwa districts of Madhya Pradesh for making the weapons.

Speaking about the current recovery, Srivastava said there were two operations and total five criminals were arrested.

 

"In all, 43 weapons have been recovered. This happened after two operations took place. In the first operation, teams of inspectors, Shiv Kumar and Manu Dixit, recovered 10 weapons on July 12 and two criminals were arrested. After interrogation, we could also recover another weapon. So in total 11 weapons were seized in the first operation," he said.

"On July 18, 20 weapons were recovered and two criminals, Dharmendra and Devendar, both from Aligarh were arrested. After interrogating them, we came to know, one more criminal, Arun, has gone to Khargone to get weapons and he was also arrested and we recovered 12 more weapons from him. So, in total 32 weapons were recovered in the second operation. And in totality, in both operations, we recovered 43 weapons," added Srivastava.

In the previous year, till December 31, 200 illicit weapons were recovered by the Special Cell and 36 criminals, especially smugglers, were arrested.

In 2014, in the past six and a half months, the Delhi's Special Cell has already recovered 160 illicit weapons and arrested 33 criminals.

Of the 160 weapons recovered this year, 31 were made in Munger and 117 in Khandwa and Khargone.
