Lorin Maazel, America's modern conductors of classical music, has passed away. He was 84.
Maazel, who founded Castleton Festival along with his wife in 2009, died as a due to some complications post suffering from pneumonia, as per the festival's website, the BBC reported.
The music director, who was born in France in 1930, had claimed top positions at the Vienna State Opera and the New York Philharmonic, and was admired for his accuracy of his conducting.
Maazel had also composed music and produced an opera on George Orwell's novel, 1984, and as per the Guardian back in 2011, had the memory powerful enough to perform without a score.
