Volunteers in Punjab have come together to lead a cleanup campaign to make people aware of the tons of garbage disposed in and around the city.
Hotel Radisson Blu in Amritsar, is taking the lead in the city by organising a cleanup campaign, 'Let's Do It! AMRITSAR', around the Golden Temple.
Nearly 100 thousand pilgrims come to Darbar Sahib (Golden temple) everyday to pay obeisance and the streets are left littered with flotsam creating health and hygiene problems for the residents.
"We decided that all volunteers would come together and run a small campaign near the Jallianwala Bagh and the Golden Temple to show people that how much garbage is collected everyday in our area which has a very negative impact on nature. Basically this is a small initiative on our part to make people aware that they should not do this. Garbage can be recycled and reused so we should dispose it accordingly," said Jatinder Pal Singh, general manager of Radisson blu.
The hotel team comprising of 50 team members spearheaded by the general manager started the activity at around 5:30 in the morning.
Volunteers were seen with brooms and garbage bags while some were holding banners to promote their campaign.

Their main objective was to sensitise residents towards garbage accumulation in their neighbourhood and to bring about a positive change in their life.
The team of volunteers urged organizations, schools and businesses in the area to unite and support the campaign at a local level to ensure that at least their city would remain clean.
