On the occasion of the World Environment Day in Kathmandu, Pushpa Basnet, who won CNN Hero award in 2012 for providing home to children living behind bars with their imprisoned parents and Nepalese actress and HABITAT Youth Build Ambassador 2014 Reecha Sharma lend their voice for an official Earth Anthem on the occasion of the World Environment Day yesterday.
"Listening to this song (Earth Anthem) ,we as human beings feel gifted with most beautiful gift in the world by God which is nature This song should be played in schools so that we could respect nature. Nowadays children stay away from nature due to technology, but nature is something that can't be created by human beings. Every country has its own anthem but this is something unique that that has been created for the earth. It is really good to hear a song for the earth." said Pushpa Basnet.
Actress Reecha Sharma too supported the idea of an official anthem for the planet stating- "Our planet needs an official Earth Anthem, a song that anybody, anywhere in the world can sing on any occasion to celebrate the beauty and diversity of our planet, our cosmic home, to pay tribute to mother Earth to whom we owe all our riches, our glories.I want to support the Earth Anthem created by Abhay K.and will help in promoting it in School,Collages and various Organisation. The world is celebrating Enviroment Day, and I thought its the right time to start raising awareness about the need of an Earth Anthem."
The idea of an official Earth Anthem has been earlier endorsed by Bollywood actress Manisha Koirala, Unicef Nepal Ambassador Ani Choying Drolma, Hollywood actor Robert Lin, author-politician Shashi
Tharoor etc.

On a separate event yesterday in Kathmandu, the Indian Ambassador Ranjit Rae inaugurated an exhibition "Inter-linkage between Art and Environment" at Nepal Art Council, Babarmahal on the occasion of the World Environment Day.
The inauguration ceremony of the exhibition began with the singing of the Earth Anthem written by the
Indian poet-diplomat Abhay K by the Nepalese school children. Organised jointly by Nepal Art Council and B.P. Koirala India-Nepal Foundation, "Inter-linkage between Art and Environment"exhibits intriguing paintings of Mithila art and the traditional Pauva art.
