Former Coal Secretary P.C. Parakh on Wednesday said that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed a closure report on the interrogation of former prime minister Dr. Manmohan Singh on his role in the coal block allocation case relating to Hindalco.
"As decided by the CBI court, CBI seems to have recorded statements of Dr. Manmohan Singh who was holding the court folio when a decision to allot two coal block to Hindalco was taken. I had always maintained that this was a correct and fair decision. CBI after its investigation also reached at the same conclusion that it was a fair and correct decision and accordingly filed a closure report," said Parakh.
"However, the CBI court felt that the statement of Dr. Manmohan Singh should also be recorded and accordingly CBI recorded his statement two days back. Let's wait and see what the CBI's take is on this closure report," he added.
According to one media report, CBI officials "examined" Dr. Singh at his home two days ago.
The case pertained to the allocation of a Talabira II block to Hindalco when Dr Singh was holding the coal portfolio.
The CBI has to file a status report in connection with the case before a special court by January 27.
