Over 70 stranded pilgrims have been rescued by the Coast Guard after their boat got stuck in a mud patch due to a low tide near the Elephanta Islands off Mumbai harbour.
As per reports, the pilgrims were returning from Gharapuri Shiva temple near Elephanta Islands when their vessel 'Navrang' hit a submerged mud patch, rendering the engines dysfunctional.
The vessel was reportedly over-crowded and without any life saving equipment on board.
The passengers contacted the local police first, whose operation proved inadequate.
Thereby, the Coast Guard were called in, who rescued the stranded passengers using their hovercraft ACV H-194.
