Colombia took advantage of Luis Suarez's absence to beat Uruguay and advance to the last 8 of the World Cup with a 2-0 win in Rio.

James Rodriguez scored twice for Colombia to confirm his status as the World Cup's newest star.

According to the BBC, Uruguay suffered due to Suarez's absence as the striker had been crucial for Oscar Tabarez's squad's progress to the last 16.

Rodriguez provided Colombia with the lead in the 28th minute to provide his side with the lead and doubled it after half-time to take the score to 2-0.

A Suarez-less Uruguay failed to score and lost the match with Colombia advancing to the quarterfinals and would face hosts Brazil in Fortaleza on Friday, the report added.
