Condemning the terror strike on a school in Peshawar, former prime minister and Janata Dal Secular (JD-S) chief H.D. Deve Gowda on Tuesday said that the world should unite and make a combined effort to destroy Taliban from the roots.
"There are no words to condemn this heinous, utterly shameful attack. The whole world should make a joint effort to stop this. This issue has to be dealt with at the grassroot level. It is an inhuman act. I don't know how the parents will control their sorrow to continue," Deve Gowda said.
"Terrorism has been spread over all the important cities of the world, and not just India. The world should come together to destroy this. Pakistan government is also trying to act, but I think it's beyond their control now. They are also equally concerned to protect the innocent lives," he added.
Meanwhile, former Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar said that Pakistan has been nurturing such elements and therefore militants can go anywhere. "It is a very sad incident," she added.
According to reports, around 10 terrorists had stormed the Peshawar school dressed as Frontier Corps officers. Two to three militants were killed while scaling its walls. One of the militants reportedly blew himself up, while another terrorist is believed to still have over 50 captives in his custody.
A strong contingent of police and security forces reached the spot and blocked the area as the operations took place. The police have also reportedly surrounded the school perimeter.
Meanwhile, TTP spokesman Muhammad Khorasani has said that the attackers were instructed to target the older students but not the younger ones.
