The Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist) on Friday took the responsibility of setting the car of an Indian official of the embassy in Kathmandu on fire, saying the people of Nepal are angry as Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government did not take the issue of blockade seriously.

"Party wanted India to withdraw the blockade immediately. A campaign was going on since last one month to pressurize India to remove this blockade," said Khadga Bahadur Vishwakarma, spokesperson of Nepal Communist Party Maoist (chand group).

"Today's incident took place during that campaign. We had earlier warned not to ride Indian vehicles in Nepal, otherwise the angry people can do anything. Modi government did not take this issue seriously and that is why the people are angry. This anger will convert into a struggle. This will neither benefit India nor Modi ji," he added.

A car belonging to one of the staff members of the Indian embassy in Nepal caught fire here on Friday due to a technical snag.

No one was killed or injured in the incident.
