Indian pacer Mohammed Shami's father, Tauseef Ahmed, on Tuesday celebrated the national team's fifth straight win in the World Cup, stating that he was confident of Dhoni's boys emerging victorious against Ireland in the ongoing tournament.
"I would like to congratulate all the Indians and the Indian cricket team. The wicket was a very easy batting wicket. Our cricketers, including Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma, Suresh Raina performed really well, especially in the batting," Ahmed told ANI.
"I was confident that the team will definitely perform well," he added.
Ahmed also seemed confident that the squad would be able to defend its 2011 title.
"Before the World Cup started, people did not believe in India, but now they've proved their capability. The team is performing quite well," he asserted.
Earlier in the day, India defeated Ireland by eight wickets at Seddon Park, in Hamilton.
Shami was the pick of the Indian bowlers in the match against Ireland, picking up three wickets, taking his tally to 12 wickets for the tournament so far.
