Confirming former reports, the Russian intelligence announced that the Russian passenger plane that crashed over the Sinai Peninsula in Egypt last month had been bombed.

The Guardian reports that Alexander Bortnikov, the head of Russia's FSB security service, told a meeting chaired by President Vladimir Putin that the attack on the plane was 'unequivocally a terrorist attack'.

"During the flight, a homemade device with the power of 1.5 kilograms of TNT was detonated. As a result, the plane fell apart in the air, which can be explained by the huge scattering of the fuselage parts of the plane," Bortnikov said.

The Russian Security Service (FSB) also said that traces of explosives were found in the plane's debris, confirming it as an attack of terror that killed all the 224 passengers in the flight.

Putin has reportedly vowed revenge and has ordered his special forces to hunt down the perpetrators.

The Kogalymavia A231 crashed over the Sinai Peninsula in Egypt on October 31 killing all 224 people on board the plane making it the deadliest air accident in modern Russian aviation history.
