Congress leader Jyotiraditya Scindia on Monday demanded that the enquiry in the Vyapam scam should be handed over to the CBI or a Supreme Court monitored independent investigation agency.

"It is a very crucial issue that strikes at the roots of the future of the younger citizens of our county. The fact is that thousands of young people are in jail today. Those who have passed away, their parents are being harassed, they are being asked to produce death certificate and come many-a-time to Bhopal, where in fact, the people who have been behind the scam are still running free and writ is still being written large," Scindia told ANI.

"We have very clearly demanded for two things to take place- one, the enquiry in the Vyapam scam to be handed over to the CBI or Supreme Court monitored independent investigation agency. Secondly, with regard to the 45 people who have unfortunately passed away, that the enquiry should take place by the CBI or a Supreme Court monitored independent investigation agency," he added.

Earlier in the day, the Supreme Court had agreed to hear a petition against Madhya Pradesh Governor Ram Naresh Yadav to ensure a fair inquiry in the Vyapam scam.

The matter is scheduled to be heard on July 9.

The Vyapam scam involved the Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board or Vyapam, which holds the exams for positions like medical officers, constables, teachers and auditors for government departments.

The candidates allegedly bribed government officials to make it to the list of those who cleared the test.
