Urging the Election Commission to look into Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal's allegation that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has been instructing its MLAs to buy fake votes in their constituencies, the Congress Party on Saturday said the poll body must ensure that the ruling party at the Centre does not misuse the administration to its advantage.
"If there is doubt it should be addressed. The Election Commission must ensure that the ruling party doesn't misuse the administration to its advantage," said Congress leader J.P. Aggarwal.
The BJP, however, termed the AAP convener's allegation as theatrics.
"Arvind Kejriwal and the Aam Aadmi Party know what is going to be their fate. Their political career is moving towards an end so the frustration is obvious. People of Delhi and people of India want development not theatrics," said BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra.
Meanwhile, AAP spokesperson Ashutosh said they would convey their grievances to the poll panel.
"They are preparing fake voter identity cards openly and deleting names of Aam Aadmi Party voters. This is being carried out like an industry in Delhi," Ashutosh said.
"We are trying to seek an appointment with the Election Commission to urge them to control it. Otherwise it would be almost impossible to conduct free and fair polls in Delhi," he added.
Kejriwal had earlier alleged that the BJP has directed its MLAs to buy fake votes and delete the Aam Aadmi Party's votes in the impending Delhi Assembly polls.
"BJP source -top BJP leader has directed all Delhi BJP MLAs to get at least 5000 fake votes made in each constituency get AAP votes deleted," Kejriwal wrote on twitter.
"Bribe rate-Rs 1500 for new fake vote, Rs 200 to get any vote deleted. This info given by someone who did this job for BJP last week," he added.
Kejriwal said that the AAP leaders would meet the Election Commission on Monday to lodge a formal complaint in this regard.
"We are meeting EC officials on Mon at 11 am and making a formal complaint," he wrote.
Delhi has been under President's rule since Kejriwal resigned as the Chief Minister on February 14 after being in office for 49 days.
The BJP won 31 seats in the 70-member house while the AAP emerged victorious in 28 seats in the Delhi Assembly polls held last year.
