Condemning the attack on Union Minister Babul Supriyo, who was attacked with brick stones allegedly by Trinamool Congress (TMC) workers in Asanol on Tuesday when he was on his way to a police station against the arrest of some Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) workers, the Congress Party on Thursday asserted that is the main tactics for all political parties except Congress in West Bengal.
Congress leader PC Chacko told ANI, "A political party should fight on ideological ground and not with strong arm methods of violence. Unfortunately, we see violence is the main tactics for all political parties except Congress in West Bengal."
"This will be a slur on the name of the state and I hope it's better these parties refrain from these kinds of tactics to settle political course," he added.
A video footage of the incident that has surfaced shows a violent mob attacking Supriyo's convoy. During the scuffle, one of the BJP party workers was also thrashed and his clothes ripped off.
The mob pelted stones and thrashed party workers in presence of police officials.
"I was going to the police station to secure release of some of my party men. I was hit with bricks and windowpanes of my car were damaged by TMC workers," Supriyo, Minister of State for Heavy Industries and Public Enterprises, alleged.
"They also showed black flags. I don't know why the police allowed the mob to come near my car," he said.
