Taking a dig at Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) Muslim wing for urging Muslims to adopt cows and open gaushalas (cowshed), the Congress on Thursday termed it a double standard, while saying that ones, who never fed fodder to cows, were promoting cow protection.
"Gau Mata is holy for all and everyone knows this. All those friends, who have become self-proclaimed chiefs should be asked whether they served even a single cow in their constituency. Those who have never fed fodder to cow are promoting this by wearing a mask of cow protectors. What else can be more double-standard than this?" Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala told ANI.
The RSS-affiliated Muslim Rashtriya Manch (MRM) has decided to urge the Muslim community to shun eating beef and adopt cows.
The MRM, which is scheduled to meet at Piran Kaliyar near Roorkee on May 5 and 6, will advise Muslims to learn about the benefits of cows.
"Even the Quran says cow meat is not to be eaten. The purpose of the meeting is to put forward some thinking points in front of the decision-makers of the community and arrive at a consensus," said Indresh Kumar, a senior RSS pracharak and convenor of the MRM.
He further said that the 'Arabs shunned beef for many years and that eating beef is something that has come up recently among Muslims'.
"Over 150 Muslim families across India are already running gaushalas. We have identified them and we want them to be the examples for the community," he added.
