The Congress party on Sunday demanded an apology from Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief Arvind Kejriwal over his recent remark, where he told the people of the national capital to accept bribes from other political parties but to vote for him.
"Kejriwal has stated that the Delhi people can accept money from the Congress or the Bharatiya Janata Party but vote for the AAP. He has insulted the people of Delhi. He should apologize to the people," said Maken.
"I would also like to remind him that his party was one of the first parties to splurge money on campaigns. The hoardings of AAP all over Delhi have been put up [by using ] money and they are accusing the Congress and the BJP instead," he added.
Earlier in the day, Kejriwal had told voters in the city to accept bribes from the Congress and the BJP but to vote for the AAP in the upcoming Delhi assembly elections.
The Election Commission of India has already sent a notice to the AAP chief for violating the Model Code of Conduct during a press conference where he launched an attack on the BJP and its Delhi unit chief, Satish Upadhyay.
The former Delhi chief minister had levelled graft allegations against Upadhyay, and had also accused the BJP of attempting to incite communal violence in Delhi.
The elections for the 70-member Delhi Assembly will be held in a single phase on February 7, with the counting of votes set to take place on February 10.
