Expressing displeasure over the Islamabad High Court's decision to suspend 26/11 terror attack accused Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi's detention order, the Congress party on Monday criticised Pakistan, saying that such a move only exposes that the latter has not learnt any lessons of practicing selective promotion of terrorism.
"It appears that Pakistan has not learnt the lessons of selective promotion of terrorism. When you sponsor wrong things, the chickens always come home to roost," Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi told ANI.
"There is no terrorism which is selective. Terrorism knows no boundaries and ultimately these [terrorists] are Frankenstein monsters which will eat up its creator," he added.
Echoing similar sentiments, former union minister PC Chacko accused Pakistan of showing deceit towards India.
"We see [the move] as a deliberate deceit... for the purpose of law and order, the police can keep a person in detention and normally the court doesn't question such things...," he said.
Chavko also demanded that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj to take up this matter with Islamabad.
"It is the duty of the Prime Minister and our External Affairs Minister [to ensure] that the Pakistan government takes necessary action in this matter," he said.
On December 18, Lakhvi was granted bail after his arrest by a Pakistani anti-terrorism court (ATC), while the federal government in the Islamic Republic extended his detention in the Adiala Jail under the Maintenance of Public Order ordinance.
Lakhvi's counsel, however, petitioned that the detention of Lakhvi by the administration after the court granted him bail was unlawful.
