The Congress and the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) on Friday broke their alliance, citing issues pertaining to seat sharing as the cause, ahead of the legislative assembly polls in the state.
"Both parties were having problems with seat sharing, thus we have agreed to disagree. We broke the alliance after we were not able to come up with a workable solution," Jharkhand Congress in-charge BK Hariprasad told ANI.
"We will fight the elections with the Rashtriya Janata Dal and the Janata Dal (United). Smaller parties have also approached us and we will take a decision on them," he added.
Meanwhile, Congress leader Subodh Kant Sahay also attributed a deadlock on candidates in tribal areas as a cause for their split with the JMM.
"Almost all the tribal seats had become non-negotiable with the JMM. We had given them a free hand with the election strategy in the state and we requested them at a very personal level to not cause conflicts over three-four seats," Sahay told ANI.
"Since we have teamed up with the RJD and JD(U) in Bihar, we will go with the same format in Jharkhand as well," he added.
The 81 member Jharkhand assembly will go to polls in five phases beginning from November 25.
