Former Punjab chief minister Amarinder Singh today downplayed reports suggesting that the Congress has offered the deputy chief minister's post to Navjot Singh Sidhu and said that anybody interested in accepting the policies and programmes of the grand old party are welcome in the fold.
Singh, who met Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi in the national capital, said that there was no discussion on the cricketer-turned politician.
"No. There was no discussion on Navjot Sidhu. Anybody interested in accepting the policies and programmes of the Congress is welcome to join us," he said.
Reports earlier suggested that the Congress, which is making all efforts to win the Punjab assembly polls, was contemplating over the merger of Sidhu's newly-floated Awaaz-e-Punjab with it ahead of the electoral battle.
The ex-cricketer had launched the Awaaz-e-Punjab forum last month after his exit from the BJP.
