The Congress Party on Thursday lashed out at the ruling NDA for 'being intolerant' and disrupting the upper house over Kumari Selja's 'caste' remark.
"How can you expect liberalism to grow in a country where there is so much of intolerance? If this incident is happening with a minister (Kumari Selja), what would be the state of a common man," Congress leader Ashwani Kumar told ANI.
"That is why we believe that there should be a comprehensive discussion on intolerance in the country," he added.
The former law minister also attacked the BJP-led NDA Government, saying the basic constitutional edifice of the nation was in danger.
Blaming the ruling regime for disruptions, Kumar said, "We have several other issues to raise, we have the price rise issue, we have the flood issue for which the House needs to function."
"The House can only function if the opposition is convinced that the ruling regime wants to listen it. But here the ruling regime is not able to create that environment because of its intolerance," he added.
