The Congress Party on Wednesday accepted that it was experiencing financial problems and is short of funds due to its activities being on the rise.
"We do not keep a big fund. When there is a programme on an election, we collect funds from our members and our well-wishers also, that is a continuous process. Of course, it is a fact that we are very very short of funds because our activities are being increased. The party is facing a lot of financial problems, that is a fact,"Congress leader P C Chacko told ANI.
"Party leaders are contributing a portion of their salaries. Contributing to the party is not something new. I think, in all political parties in India, they are getting a share of the members' salary and remuneration," he added.
Congress leader Manish Tewari also said that it is normal that MPs and the MLAs contribute a part of their salary and added there is nothing new in it.
