Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) spokesperson Daljit Singh Cheema on Tuesday accused the Congress Party of playing cent percent dirty politics in planning to take the Faridkot firing case to President Pranab Mukherjee for political gain.

"This is 100 percent dirty politics played by the Congress Party. After damaging the situation here by joining hands with the hardliners, all they are doing is just drama," Cheema told ANI.

"The meeting of Rahul Gandhi and his delegation with the President is just for gaining political benefit. They want to meet and insult the state of Punjab in front of the President by exaggerating the situation," he added.

The Congress vice president will lead a 21-member delegation to President Pranab Mukherjee on Thursday over the Faridkot firing case.

The Congress delegation is expected to call on the president at around 5.30 p.m. and is likely to demand a time-bound probe into the alleged police firing on protesters in which two persons were killed in the Behbal Kalan area of Faridkot District last month.

Police allegedly opened fire on people protesting against the sacrilege of the Guru Granth Sahib in Bargari village.

Punjab Police has registered a case of murder against the unidentified police officials involved in the firing.

Police are claiming that they had fired in self defence.
