Congress leader P.C Chacko on Thursday said it is the responsibility of the Centre to meet the expenditure incurred for dengue tests and provide medical and health facilities for the poor.
"Municipal corporations have got funds to control the spread of mosquitoes but they have done nothing," he said.
Chacko also said, "The Congress has the opposition party in the Municipal corporations and they have started agitation against the corporation for not handling the situation properly."
How would poor people affected by dengue afford to spend money on medical tests? He asked.
"Central Government should come forward and meet the expenditure to tackle this epidemic, Chacko told ANI.
Delhi Health Minister Satyendra Jain earlier said the hospitals cannot turn away persons in serious condition.
Jain also said all the government hospitals will continue free tests for dengue and private hospitals cannot charge more than Rs. 600 for the tests.
The Health Minister also advised patients not to put pressure on the doctors to get admitted and asked them to keep their surroundings clean.
More than 1,900 dengue cases have reportedly been recorded in the city this year.
