Congress slams 'traditional anti-women party' AAP

Expressing surprise over Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's support to former law minister Somnath Bharti accused of domestic violence by his wife, the Congress Party on Sunday alleged that the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is a traditional anti-women party.

"It is surprising that Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is supporting him. On one hand, he claims to be pro-women Chief Minister and on the other hand when somebody in his party seems to be completely on the side, you support him," Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit told ANI.

"Somnath Bharti or Arvind Kejriwal or the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is nothing but a traditional anti-women party just like most of the right-wing parties in India," he added.

Dikshit further said that Bharti should not abscond and surrender before the law.

The Delhi Police had registered a case against the AAP MLA after he was accused of domestic violence and mental torture by his wife.

The case was registered against Bharti under Sections 307, 323 and 498A of the Indian Penal Code.

Lipika has been married to Bharti since 2010, but has been living separately from him since 2012 along with the couple's two children in a rented accommodation in Dwarka.
