The Congress Party on Tuesday held Prime Minister Narendra Modi's arrogance as being responsible for the stalemate in parliament, and said that the latter is neither sincere nor serious regarding its functioning.
"I repeat what I have said earlier- Prime Minister is neither sincere nor serious regarding the functioning of the Parliament. There are certain rules which are to be followed when it comes to the business," Congress leader Anand Sharma told the media here.
"The Prime Minister thinks that he will brazen it out, it is his obduracy, and it is his arrogance which is responsible for the stalemate or the dead-lock in the House. We want the Parliament to function. We have told the Government, we have appealed to the Prime Minister- please respond to what we are saying," he added.
He also said that the Prime Minister has not taken any stand to meaningfully engage with the opposition.
"You cannot rewrite either the rule book. Respect the past presidents and respect the standards of accountability. But this government is thick skinned. The Prime Minister speaks on everything, but he has not taken any stand to meaningfully engage with the opposition to break the Parliamentary logjam," he said.
Anand Sharma further said that Union Finance Minister's yesterday statement was not a responsible one.
"The issue is not that simple. Yesterday's statement of Finance Minister was not a responsible statement. His blaming the opposition is unfair. The opposition has raised issues regarding the acts of the Commission for which the Parliament and the House has the responsibility to force the accountability of the executive. That is the real issue," he added.
