The Congress on Monday termed the Amethi administration's directive of rescheduling party vice-president Rahul Gandhi's visit to the district as 'murder of democracy.'
Speaking to ANI here, Congress Uttar Pradesh president Raj Babbar said, "These are excuses. It's unfortunate that a three-time MP of the Amethi district can't go to his constituency on festivals. It's a murder of democracy."
Babbar further called the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) 'a weak party' for taking the support of the administration of the state in rescheduling Gandhi's visit to Amethi.
Earlier, Amethi District Magistrate Yogesh Kumar had requested Congress district president to reschedule visit of Rahul Gandhi, from October 4 to October 6, in the view of Muharram and Durga idol immersion.
"The majority of the police force will be engaged in maintaining law and order in the district till October 5", said the district magistrate in a letter to the Congress.
