The Congress Party on Saturday said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's sudden visit to Pakistan must yield good results and tangible steps towards peace on the border.

"Though our Foreign Minister stated that it is a courtesy statesman-like visit, it is not important where you reach, whom you talk to...what result you are going to get out of that visit is very important. We can't achieve by sudden landing. That is a part of cultural exchanges," Congress Leader in the Lok Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge told ANI.

Kharge further said that Prime Minister Modi must take cautious steps while going for discussions.

"In the interest of the country, we should get result and some tangible steps towards peace on the border," he added.

Prime Minister Modi made a surprise visit to Pakistan on Friday to meet his counterpart Nawaz Sharif, both reaffirming to resume high-level peace talks.
