Tamil Nadu Pradesh Congress Committee president E.V.K.S Elangovan on Tuesday welcomed the Karnataka government's appeal against Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa's acquittal in her disproportionate assets case, claiming that the ruling would send a wrong message to the common man.

"The Karnataka Government has done the correct thing by appealing in the Supreme Court. I really appreciate them for that. I request the Supreme Court to give a good and a correct judgment. A person who has indulged in corruption in a very big way and comes out free...this sends a wrong message to the common man in our country," Elangovan told ANI here.

"The Supreme Court should see that a proper judgement is given in this particular case. They should also fix a date, maybe within two months or three months," he added.

Earlier in the day, the Karnataka government filed a petition in the Supreme Court against Jayalalithaa and three others, alleging that the High Court did mathematical errors in calculating the disproportionate assets case.
