Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Thursday hit out at the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and said that the people in Punjab do not have a future under their rule.
Gandhi said that the Congress will fight as one unit to bring a prosperous future to the people.
"I cannot see anyone's future here, I can only see the Akali's future here. We have to be together, Punjab Congress will fight as one unit. Right now no one but Akalis are prospering here, only they seem to have a future, we want that everyone in Punjab has a prosperous future," Gandhi said here.
"Punjab is in crisis. Farmers have problems here, drugs are also a big problem here. When I said that there is a drug problem in Punjab then people made fun of me," he added.
Earlier today, the Congress vice-president met the family members of Gurjeet Singh Bittu, the man killed in police firing during a protest against a sacrilege incident in the district. Gandhi will also visit the family of Krishan Singh.
Two people were killed in alleged police firing in Behbal Kalan village last month during protests by Sikh activists. The protests were against recent incidents of sacrilege of the Guru Granth Sahib in the state.
