The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Thursday alleged that the Congress is working for itself and not for India.
"We have seen as to how Chidambaram had acted for bringing in the 66 (A) of the article which was in fact declared ultra-virus by the Supreme Court. It only shows that people in Congress were working with vested interest as stated by Hansraj Bharadwaj and none of them were thinking about India," BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra told ANI.
"Today what Hansraj Bharadwaj has said is exposure of Congress by Congress itself. He has profoundly pointed towards a fact that in Congress there's only the existence of a single family and everyone works for a single family. There's no respect for talent, people have thought for their kiths and kins; just to protect their children, bill was brought in," he added.
Earlier in the day, Congress leader Bharadwaj blamed former home minister P. Chidambaram for propagating the controversial Section 66A of the IT Act, refusing to believe the latter's argument of 'bad drafting'.
"A defamation Bill had been brought during the times of Rajiv Gandhi. The press revolted and it had to be withdrawn. Today he says it was bad drafting. But what is bad drafting? Whatever you say is what the Cabinet will approve. P Chidambaram should be asked why he brought in the bill, now he is saying it was bad drafting," Bharadwaj told ANI.
"Chidambaram has been the finance and home minister and has the best blessings of the party leadership. Therefore, he can get away with anything in the party," he added.
Bharadwaj further alleged that the Bill was passed because the Congress and BJP worked in tandem under the former UPA Government.
"In the UPA Government, there was no difference between the Congress and BJP. They used to work together. They had a cosy club and some BJP leaders have even had to pay the price for that by being omitted today," he said.
