Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar has criticised the corporate sector, terming them as 'money making agencies with no love for country'.
Addressing a two-day workshop of the Shyama Prasad Mukharji Ruban Mission here, Sarkar said,"The corporate sector, they are for money making, they are for profit maximisation. Very crudely, I must say they have no love for the country. They are running after money, but our government has given a responsibility to them to develop the country. The present government is harping on this, and this is a wrong approach."
"In this situation, I must say that this Rurban Mission, if the present government is really serious, then they need not and should not depend on the private sector or corporate sector and keep provisions in the budget," he added.
Representatives of eight northeastern states, besides two Himalayan states - Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand - and the Secretary of the Ministry of Rural Development, J K Mohapatra, and other officials were present for the workshop.
Sarkar said that the central government instead of pressuring the state government, should come forward with budgetary provisions for the success of the Rurban Mission.
Sarkar said that the strategic location of the northeastern states, which have a long international border and are adjacent to five nations, including China and Bangladesh, is very important, and if the union government has real intentions to explore the big market of the South East Asia, then it should come out with a proper policy to develop the northeast region with proper connectivity, literacy and infrastructure.
