In a major embarrassment for Akhilesh Yadav-led Samajwadi Party (SP) government, a court in Uttar Pradesh has rejected the chargesheet filed by the state police against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Amit Shah for making an alleged hate speech in April.

The court has asked the police to conduct a thorough enquiry in the matter.

Earlier on Wednesday, the Uttar Pradesh Police had filed a chargesheet against Shah based on a video in which he allegedly made a hate speech during the run up to the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.

The BJP leader had during his speech made on April 4 reportedly said that it was time to seek revenge for the killings during the last year's riots in Muzaffarnagar.
