A Delhi court on Tuesday sent SAR Geelani, the former Delhi University lecturer, to two-day police custody after he was booked for sedition for allegedly organising an event marking the death anniversary of Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru at the Press Club of India on February 10.
Geelani was detained on Monday night and questioned for several hours before being put under arrest.
Geelani's arrest comes amid a raging controversy over the arrest of Jawaharlal Nehru University's students' union president Kanhaiya Kumar on sedition charges.
After a case was registered, the police questioned DU professor Ali Javed, a Press Club member, who had booked the hall for the event.
