The Communist Party of India (CPI) on Friday welcomed Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Raghuram Rajan's remark on tolerance, saying that the latter had sent a message to the government by speaking on it.
"Good that he (Raghuram Rajan) is speaking on the issue of growing intolerance . It's a message to Government and the Prime Minister to speak categorically on it," CPI leader D Raja told ANI.
Raja also urged the Prime Minister to take action against 'communal and fascist' organisations that are trying to sabotage the nation's unity.
The CPI leader had even earlier questioned Prime Minister Modi's silence on growing intolerance in the country and on the recent 'beef row'.
The RBI Governor had earlier today asked whether ideas and behaviour that hurt a particular intellectual position or group should be banned and added that tolerance can take the offence out of the debate and instill respect.
"Tolerance and respect leads to a good equilibrium, where they reinforce each other. For example, rebellious youths in United States used to burn the American," Rajan said, while addressing students of IIT Delhi- his alma mater on their convocation ceremony.
