Communist Party of India (CPI) leader D Raja on Tuesday said Finance Minister, Arun Jaitley should talk to Prime Minister Narendra Modi about the One Rank One Pension (OROP) scheme as he appears to be pragmatic and reasonable about the issue.
"PM Modi, on Independence Day, accused all previous governments of giving only lip service to OROP," Raja said.
"The BJP Government has accepted the OROP issue as a matter of principle," he told ANI.
"Before accepting the OROP, he should have considered the consequences," he added.
The One Rank, One Pension (OROP) scheme has been a long-standing demand of nearly three-million ex-servicemen and war widows in the country. It seeks to ensure that a uniform pension is paid to defence personnel, who retire at the same rank with the same length of service irrespective of their date of retirement.
