Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi on Friday said that the formation of the new state of Telangana would not have been possible without the Congress.
"You have waited for sixty years for your dream to get fulfilled. Now on June 2, the 29th state is going to be carved out in the country, and your dream is going to come true. Many parties are fighting in the ongoing elections, but the truth is that Telangana would not have been possible without the Congress," said Gandhi in his address at a rally in Warangal.
"The people of Telangana, students, and women, everyone fought for it. The Congress heard your voices, and in the end, made your dream come true. Now, I want both states to progress and we will fulfill each and every promise that we have made to the people of Telangana," he said.
"The BJP and TDP had objected the formation of Telangana. When the Telangana Bill came, even the Telangana Rastriya Samiti (TRS) was nowhere to be seen. The TRS was formed in 2001, and in 2000, over 40 Congress leaders had passed a resolution for the creation of Telangana," he added.
